CLEAN THE WATER
The Drain Commissioner manages storm drain water for the county. The cleanliness of this water is ESSENTIAL to the health of our ground water, rivers, local lakes, and great lakes.
There are certain chemicals that our regular drain technology is not an effective filter for. Unfortunately chemicals in the PFOS family are one of them. What most people don't know is that PFOS is still being added into our water systems through industrial facility run offs. Joanna has plans to utilize new emerging drain technology in key areas to keep PFOS and other toxic chemicals from making their way to our ground water. If were going to address the PFOS issue in our water, we need to start by stopping it from getting worse!
Joanna Croes feels that the cleanliness of our water is a top priority and needs to be taken seriously. Our drains route large volumes of water and sometimes what the water picks up along the way isn't pretty (Such as E.Coli and PFOS). That is why it is SO incredibly important to have a drain commissioner in office that prioritizes proper maintenance, management of our drains, AS WELL AS looking into new more effective technology.
In order to properly clean the water, it needs to be moving towards its destination at the correct pace. Too fast, and the water will not be adequately cleaned by nature risking running toxic oil and bacteria into our lakes and rivers. Too slow, and the water may stagnate which can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and flooding.
